OK, now I've had a hot bath, half a bottle of wine and a belly full of lasagne, I feel ready to post about today's outing to Langstone Harbour... although I barely have the strength in my fingers to type...

After a 6.00am start, I got down to Hayling with Ed by about 8.30 and waited around for Bob from 4boards to deliver my new Tabou Rocket 105. Then it was off to Poo Beach to give the thing of beauty a go on the water. It really didn't disappoint. When I first got on it, I was amazed at how easy it was to use compared to the Flow. Everything people had told me was true. It was far easy to sail and waterstart (more of that later!!), and was just so much damned fun. After my first run I came back in and played with the footstraps and then went for a proper blast out to the island in the middle of the Harbour. It was wicked, powered up in the straps with my 5.7, and flying. I tried lots of waterstarts and was chuffed to discover how easy the board made them. I then headed back to the beach and found the board made ground up wind very easily too. I was a very happy man, and planning this post in my head - thinking about how I was going to tell you all about how it transformed my sailing . So, after a brief breather, I then headed out with Ed back over to the island, and had another great blast. Then after pratting aorund in the lee of the island for a little while, I decided to head back to the beach. That's when the trouble started. I fluffed a couple of waterstarts, and got thrown over the front a few times. I then managed to get going, followed by missing the straps and another unceremonious dunking.... followed by more fluffed waterstarts and overly tentative sailing, and hence more splashes. This patter repeated itself and I started to get pretty exhausted. It was the old vicious circle - the more tired you get, the more you mess up your waterstarts and get thrown over the front, resulting in further tiredness, more bad technique and more mistakes....

Anyhow, upshot was, I drifted loads, got cold and tired and had a serious walk of shame (via some lagoons and a couple of bird sanctuaries!).Quiet embarrassing, and very very knackering. But I got back in one pieces, despite some scary moments. I have to say I was VERY glad I was wearing my NP buoancy aid, despite what others have said about the things!

All in all, I enjoyed today despite the minor nightmare, and am totally chuffed with the board. I just wish I'd made the change earlier. Todays problems were nothing to do with the board, just my own lack of fitness I think. I got tired too quickly. I'm going to have to start doing some stamina building exercise....

BTW - really great to see all the forumites down there! Wish I had chatted for longer, but it really was too bloody cold for standing around on the beach!
